Beloved readers (all 7 of you!),
As we get further and further into what we’re doing with this blog, we occasionally find the need to change the way we do things. Sometimes this is because we want to take things in a different direction. Sometimes it’s because we’re just bored. And sometimes we discover that we need to make things more sustainable over the long-term. This is one of those times.
Up until now, we’ve refrained from discussing our kids on the blog in a very public way. That has been an intentional decision, based on both anecdotal and research-driven evidence, as well as personal conviction that this is a good thing for our family’s security and safety. However, we understand that many of you love our children dearly and would be more than a little disappointed if we never talked about the really cool things they do, or the funny stuff they make, or their “creative” room-painting sessions, etc. This will only get more significant when we ultimately go to our assignment, and you don’t get to squeeze their rosy cheeks as often as you do now.
So we’ve decided that we need to change our approach. We will begin to talk about the kids on the blog. We will probably also be posting photographs of them on occasion, as you’re probably very interested in how they’re growing, and who lost teeth this month, and who has the latest designer-inspired haircuts (courtesy of their brother, of course!). We will, however, continue to refrain from using their given names, as a matter of caution and safety for them.
My amazing bride, in her infinite wisdom, suggested that we adopt some kind of actual name for them to use, rather than my standard operating procedure, which was to refer to them by their birth-order number. With that in mind, we’re introducing the new supers in the family, the X-Peacocks!
- The daughter formerly known as Number 1 will henceforth be known as Phoenix/Jean Grey.
- The son formerly known as Number 2 will henceforth be known as Cyclops/Scott Summers.
- The son formerly known as Number 3 will henceforth be known as Wolverine/Logan.
- The son formerly known as Number 4 will henceforth be known as Beast/Dr. Hank McCoy.
- The son formerly known as Number 5 will henceforth be known as Nightcrawler/Kurt Wagner.
And, coincidentally, we kick off this new season in the blog with a story about Wolverine, Where Did You Find Me?
You could have just stuck with “the boy child” “the small girl child”…
But that wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun. And then we’d have to specify which of the four mancubs we were talking about at that time–and if we mentioned more than one in a sentence, it has the potential to turn into a term-parsing nightmare.
Besides, superheroes rock!
